FAQs - HYPNOTHERAPY & EFT

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that uses the power of positive suggestion to bring about change on a subconscious level in our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
The aim of the process is to relax the conscious part of the mind so that we can simultaneously stimulate and focus the subconscious part.  This is done using skilled relaxation techniques allowing the therapist to make appropriate positive suggestions for change.

WHEN MIGHT HYPNOTHERAPY BE USEFUL?
Hypnotherapy is commonly used for habit breaking, stress related conditions.  Many have found the process incredibly effective when used in tandem with traditional treatments or used independently when other avenues have been exhausted.
Hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)used together can be a very powerful tool for change as the NLP practitioner will look at your attitude, language and your use of it.  How you communicate and your perception of others will also be a key focus so that strategies for improving understanding, motivation and learning can be formed.

WHAT IS HYPNOBIRTHING?
HypnoBirthing is a complete birth education package programme for you and your partner.  From approximately 30 weeks over three x2 hour sessions you will learn basic knowledge of the physical birth process and learn self -hypnosis to encourage a calm, comfortable and natural birth with CD or MP3 downloads to support you during each stage.
Understanding the birth process and tuning into what your body needs to do can be an empowering experience for mothers. Anxiety & stress completely contradict the hormones needed for natural childbirth so, learning to find a relaxed state as a way of reducing stress and overcoming fears in the face of what you are going through may bring about a natural labour without being artificially induced.  Being committed to the process and setting time aside to practise is essential.

DOES EVERYONE RESPOND TO HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnosis works in most cases for the majority of individuals but some can be more susceptible to suggestions than others.  Being fully committed to the process and having good rapport with your therapist is essential.  Keeping an open mind is also important as any scepticism may dampen your susceptibility to the process of change.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN A HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION?
•  A questionnaire is usually sent out prior to the appointment to make sure that hypnosis is appropriate and that you are committed to the process and will form the basis of the first appointment.
•  During the first appointment we will discuss your goals and objectives and explain how the process will work for you.
•  Practical details such as how many sessions might be needed.

In subsequent sessions the practical application of clinical hypnosis begins.  The structure of each session commences with;

•  Rapport building with particular interest in what changes you have noticed since the previous session.
•  Induction - leading you into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation.
•  Once relaxed we can begin ‘change work’ using techniques previously discussed.
•  Transition to wakefulness
•  Summary of the session and any questions, progress report so far.

HOW REGULARLY WILL I SEE MY HYPNOTHERAPIST
This will be something we decide together after the first session. Initially, it may be weekly but depending on changes made after the session you may choose more or less frequent visits.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The duration of therapy will really be dependant on your circumstances and the reason that you came initially.  Some issues can be sorted in a single session of two hours while other issues may be better suited to a long-term approach with regular weekly sessions.  There is always flexibility when it comes to decreasing or extending the number of sessions required according to your progress and needs.

WHAT IS EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?
EFT is a relatively new discovery within the field of energy psychology.  It is often referred to as ‘Psychological acupressure’ and works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of discomfort.  These blockages can challenge us emotionally, often leading to limiting beliefs and behaviours that stop us from living life harmoniously.  Symptoms of these blockages can be both physical and emotional if not kept in check and can result in dis-ease.

An EFT treatment involves tapping with fingertips on the end points of meridians just below the skins surface and is non-invasive.  It is a brilliant self- help tool that works to clear disruptions by focusing on the specific problem whilst tapping on the end points of energy meridians.  This process can be a bit like pealing an onion as you uncover the root causes but as you get to the core of the problem it can result in the ‘straightening out’ the energy system.

WHY CHOOSE EFT?
This is a really positive form of therapy, it often works when nothing else will and can offer really rapid, long-lasting results.  It can be self- applied after initial help from an experienced practitioner.
