Frequently Asked Questions

What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

EFT is often referred to as ‘psychological acupressure’ and works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of discomfort. These blockages can challenge us emotionally, often leading to limiting beliefs and behaviours that stop us from living life harmoniously. Symptoms of these blockages can be both physical and emotional if not kept in check and can result in disease.

An EFT treatment involves tapping with fingertips on the end points of meridians just below the skins surface and is non-invasive. It is a brilliant self- help tool that works to clear disruptions by focusing on the specific problem whilst tapping on the end points of energy meridians. This process can be a bit like peeling an onion as you uncover the root causes. As you get to the core of the problem, it can result in ‘straightening out’ the energy system.

What can EFT help with?

Created by Gary Craig in the 1990s, EFT has provided thousands of people with relief from all manner of problems and conditions, such as trauma and abuse, phobias, depression and addiction.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy that uses positive suggestion to bring about change on a subconscious level in our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It relaxes the conscious part of the mind so that we can simultaneously stimulate and focus the subconscious part.

When is hypnotherapy useful?

Hypnotherapy is commonly used for habit breaking stress-related conditions. Many people find the process incredibly effective when used together with traditional treatments or used independently when other avenues have been exhausted.

Does everyone respond to hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy works for most people but some are more susceptible to suggestions than others. Being fully committed to the process and having good rapport with your therapist is essential. Keeping an open mind is also important.

How regularly will I see my hypnotherapist?

This will be something we decide together after the first session. Initially, it may be weekly but depending on changes made after the session, you may choose more or less frequent visits.

What Is reflexology?

Reflexology has been developed from ancient Chinese and Egyptian practices. It is based on the theory that the body is divided into ten zones running from head to toe. More recently, reflexology practitioners have begun to incorporate the acupressure techniques of traditional Chinese medicine. Working on specific points can bring about a therapeutic effect in other parts of the body.

How does reflexology work?

The underlying theory behind reflexology is that there are ‘reflex’ areas in the hands and feet that correspond to specific organs, glands and other parts of the body. Certain areas of the hands and feet are linked to other areas and organs of the body, applying pressure to these areas can provide health in corresponding organs through energetic pathways.
A scientific explanation is that the pressure may send signals that balance the nervous system and release chemicals such as endorphins that reduce pain and stress.

What will I feel during the reflexology treatment?

Most people find it relaxing. If you find it painful or feel discomfort be sure to tell me so that I can work within your comfort zone. Some areas may be tender or sore and I may spend extra time working on these points until the tenderness decreases.

Why do people have reflexology?

Some of the conditions which may benefit from reflexology include stress and stress-related conditions, digestive disorders, arthritis, insomnia, hormonal imbalances, menstrual disorders, fertility issues and back ache.Reflexology is recommended as a complementary therapy and should not replace medical treatments.

What is a typical reflexology treatment like?

I’ll send you a questionnaire before the appointment. After removing your shoes and socks or tights, you will be relax in a chair of on a couch but will remain fully clothed. I will then assess your feet and start with some gentle warm-up massage. I will then start a sequence on each foot and stimulate various parts of the foot to identify areas of tension. I use paraben-free natural products from Neal’s Yard. I may use guided meditation to help you fully relax.

How will I feel after reflexology?

Most people feel relaxed and calm after their treatments and sometimes sleepy. Occasionally people feel nauseous, anxious or tearful but this is only temporary and is considered to be part of the healing process. It may be that a talk therapy would be more beneficial if necessary to help you manage any upset.
